Jimmy found Michael Conner Humphreys in Northern Mississippi. He came to an open call having only been a performer in a couple of elementary school plays. He had a memorable, natural idiosyncrasy in his speech pattern. His voice dipped at the end of his sentences… So, Jimmy was the first person in the world to hear “Stupid is as stupid does” said in Conner’s memorable way.
Tom Hanks kept Conner on set for a couple of months to help make Conner’s voice, Forrest Gump’s voice. When Mr. Hanks won the Oscar he sent Conner a miniature version of the statue. A telling tribute…
