Robert Zemeckis: and Tom Hanks were searching for young Forrest Gump. Their casting director, Ellen Lewis, called Jimmy and asked if he would join the search. Of course, he agreed and the rest is history.. Jimmy found Michael Conner Humphreys in Northern Mississippi. He came to an open call having only been a performer in a few elementary school plays and he had this interesting, natural idiosyncrasy in his speech pattern. His voice dipped at the end of his sentences. So, Jimmy was the first person in the world to hear “Stupid is as stupid does” said in Conner’s memorable way. Tom Hanks kept Conner on set for a couple of months to help make Conner’s voice..Forrest Gump’s voice..and when Tom won the Oscar he sent Conner a miniature version of the statue..a telling tribute.
